GANYC MEMBERSHIP ONLINE MEETING
APRIL 1, 2020, 6 PM

The next GANYC membership meeting will take place Wednesday, April 1 at 6 pm. The meeting will be conducted via the online meetings platform Zoom. The online meeting has a capacity of 500 registrants, and is open to the public.

REGISTRATION

To participate in the online meeting, you must register here through our Wild Apricot system as you would for any other GANYC event. Once you register, you will receive an e-mail confirmation that will contain instructions for joining the online meeting on April 1.

In addition, the GANYC IT Committee will be running eight training sessions over the next several days for any members who may be unfamiliar with Zoom and want to test out the technology. These have been posted to Wild Apricot and you can register at your convenience.

MEETING STRUCTURE/AGENDA

There really is only one topic that will be discussed - COVID-19 and its effects on our business. Members of the GANYC Board of Directors will serve as moderators for the online meeting. President Emma Guest-Consales will the primary moderator.

We have lined up 4 guest presenters so far; there could be one or two more announced in the next few days.  Here is what is confirmed so far:

  • Von Harden, Founder, and Karen Yates, Community Coordinator, IATDG. Von and Karen will address overall trends related to COVID-19 as seen by tour operators, and what tour guides and directors can do during the crisis to work on their skills.
  • Bill Caldwell, CEO & CPA, Caldwell CPAs: Bill Caldwell, who conducted a very well-received PDP for GANYC in January about taxes and tour guiding, will return to address the tax implications of the COVID-19 virus, including the tax implications of some of the government assistance programs that have been adopted.
  • Kate Post, President-Owner, & Gail Bloom, Senior Client Service Manager, Forrest Solutions:  Forrest Solutions is the the nation’s first and leading onsite outsourcing and staffing firm. Kate and Gail will discuss how guides can look for alternative income streams, how they can update their resumes, and what types of jobs might become available, and when they will become available.

The presenters will be asked questions by the GANYC moderators and will accept questions from the audience. To submit a question in advance, please e-mail board@ganyc.org, and make sure to specify to which presenter your question is addressed. In addition, you will be able to submit questions in real time during the meeting via the chatroom function on the Zoom app. Please note that due to time constraints, we will not be able to ask every question that is submitted; the moderators will focus on questions most appropriate to the discussion, as well as questions that seem to be the most asked.

Other Agenda Items:

  • Michael Morgenthal, vice president, will address the cancelled tour registry and its results, taking questions from the audience as described above.
  • Michael Morgenthal will also discuss an initiative GANYC is undertaking to help jumpstart tour business once the medical emergency begins to subside.
  • There will be some time for general questions for the GANYC board, submitted in advance or in real time as described above.
  • We do have an Industry Partner vote. The Society of Illustrators has applied to become a GANYC Industry Partner. An online ballot will be sent to all Full Voting Members via Wild Apricot on April 1.

There will not be traditional committee reports; committee reports will be posted to the Documents section of ganyc.org

We hope everyone is staying safe, sanitary and sane during the COVID-19 pandemic, and look forward to connecting virtually on April 1.
