Members FAM: Lincoln in New York

with John Semlak

On February 27 1860 a little known former congressman from Illinois arrived in New York to give a lecture at the Cooper Union  While in New York he stopped at Mathew Brady's studio for a photo and attended a sermon by Henry Ward Beecher in Brooklyn.  His trip to New York would help vault Lincoln to the Republican nomination for president, and ultimately the presidency.

This tour will follow Lincoln's footsteps in New York, from the former Astor House Hotel where he stayed to the Cooper Union where he spoke.  Along the way we'll see a surviving former studio of Mathew Brady, some former shopping haunts of both Mr and Ms Lincoln, the location of a former Mahanttan church Lincoln did visit, and a bar that Lincoln did not visit.
